Freedom of information
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) gives you the right to request access to records held by the Town.
Before making a formal request, check whether the information is already available. Many records, such as Council agendas, minutes and by-laws, are published on this website and can be requested informally at no charge.
How to make a request
- Describe the records you are looking for in as much detail as possible, including dates and departments.
- Include the $5 application fee required under MFIPPA.
- Requests for your own personal information are also made this way.
What happens next
The Town will respond within 30 calendar days. You may be asked to clarify your request, and additional fees for search and preparation time may apply. You will receive a fee estimate before any work over $25 begins.
Your right to appeal
If you disagree with the Town’s decision, you may appeal to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario within 30 days.
